Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate differences in capital according to the presence or absence of volunteering. It also examines the effect of an older volunteer¡¯s capital on life satisfaction and whether the volunteer¡¯s capital affects life satisfaction through interpersonal satisfaction. This study used the sixth additional wave of the Korean Retirement and Income Study(KReIS)(2016), seventh additional wave of KReIS(2018), and eighth KReIS(2019). The subjects of this study are over 60 years old and the sample size is 250 people who volunteered for the sixth additional KReIS. In the sixth additional KReIS, the human capital, cultural capital, and social capital of volunteers were used. Interpersonal satisfaction of the seventh additional wave was used as a mediating variable, and life satisfaction of the eighth KReIS was used as the dependent variable.
For data analysis, Baron and Kenny¡¯s triangular regression analysis and the Sobel test were used. According to the results of the study, the human capital of volunteers was significantly higher than that of non-volunteers, and among the social capital, friends, social activities, and social support were all significantly higher, except for family relationships. Education, economic activity, and health status as human capital had a significant effect on life satisfaction, and social support, which is social capital, had an effect on life satisfaction. In addition, social support partially mediated interpersonal satisfaction and had an effect on life satisfaction.
